Thugs Assault Journalists at Otumara Destruction Site

A good number of journalists were today, Friday 14th March, attacked at Otumara Community of Ilaje Area of Lagos Mainland, in Lagos State following the ongoing demolition of residential buildings in the area.

The Journalists said they were in the community to ascertain the level of demolition following protest from residents of the community and some civil society groups led by the President Center For Human and Social-Economic Right, CHSR, Comrade Alex Omotehinse before they were attacked by thugs suspected to be working with land grabbers in the area

The journalists upon arriving to the community said they were attacked by thugs with dangerous weapons who drove a navy blue Toyota Saloon car to the area and slapped, hit pounced on the journalists.

Many of them sustained different degrees of injury.

One of the victims of the demolition incident whose house was brought down, Mrs Olatunji Jacob said the thugs have since been terrorizing them since the demolition exercise started.

Mrs Olatunji said the thugs are mobilized by some political big wings in the State who wants to take over their landed properties from them by force.

The journalists attacked included: Oluwatosin Sanni of the News Buster, Gbenga Adewale of Seefame News, Seyi Fadoro of Distinct Media others were Oluwaseun Adeola Oluwole
Integrity News, Wasiu Ayinde of LTV8, Mr Stevens from Kaftan TV, Segun Adeboboye, Control TV and Aigboje Ikhuoria of ITV, Kanu Daniel Sun news papers , and Dipo New telegraph amongst others.

The journalists have since gone to the clinic to get first aid treatment.
